Car Tech Verdict
The Pioneer DMH-2660NEX car stereo offers a sleek design, responsive screen, and impressive sound quality. With Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, it provides seamless phone connectivity. Despite room for design improvement, it’s a solid choice to enhance your car audio experience if you value connectivity and great sound.
Other Experts Say?
“Pioneers DMH to six60 next has almost everything that the DM h 1500 NEX didn’t have, and I suggest that you give it some serious consideration when upgrading, not to mention it has one of the fastest operating systems on any stereo I’ve ever filmed this stereo boasts a 6.8-inch capacitive touchscreen display.”
“If you see or hear the name Pioneer, you know you’re getting something good for what you paid for. These guys have been around long enough to know exactly what you’re looking for within your budget.”
“I kept on working away, buttoning everything back up here, and I got it all together. It’s all functioning, and I’m really happy with it. By the way, just driving around for a couple of days, it’s made such a big difference. It feels like a modern vehicle now. Everything turns on, and it seems like everything functions okay. So, it’s just a matter of putting everything back together now.”
Pros
- Responsive capacitive screen with vibrant display
- Supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless phone connectivity
- Impressive sound quality with Bluetooth and MOSFET 4 X 50 amplifier
- Versatile features like screen mirroring and video streaming via hotspot
- Reliable radio functionality with clear reception
Cons
- Design could have been improved, unused space on bezels
Detail:
The Pioneer DMH-2660NEX is a sleek and modern-looking car stereo that has a quite responsive capacitive screen. The screen is vibrant and stylish-looking and does not require you to push harder on the functions to make them work.
It supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which works well and connects with your phone faster. It also has a built-in Bluetooth feature, which I use for playing music and taking calls flawlessly without having any issues. I’m really impressed with the sound quality of this head unit.
With the help of a built-in amplifier of MOSFET 4 X 50, it gives your speakers enough power, makes the sound quality clearer, and doesn’t let the voice get distorted when playing at high volume.
Also, the availability of a 13-band Graphic EQ allows you to set the frequency of the voice of your choice, whether low or high.
This unit offers a lot of features that enhance the overall user experience. One standout feature is connecting your phone via micro HDMI and mirroring its screen on the car stereo display.
Watching movies and videos on a larger screen while on the go is a treat. Another impressive aspect is the option to connect your hotspot and enjoy live video streaming directly on the screen. It’s like having a mini-entertainment system right in your car.
The radio functionality of the Pioneer DMH-2660NEX is solid and reliable. It supports both AM and FM bands, allowing you to tune in to your favourite stations during your drive. The reception is generally clear, and the unit does a good job of picking up stations without much interference.
My only concern about this head unit is that its design could have been improved even further. There is a lot of space on the bezels that aren’t being used for anything.
The manufacturers could have either increased the screen size or added some more features to make the head unit more useful.

“They did a really good job with this. It works really, really well. I’ve been playing with it for about a week and it hasn’t had an error once. Every connection issue is the only issue we had once we connected the first time, it connects perfectly every single time. I’m really happy with what Pioneer’s done here.”

- Day/night mode automatically adjusts display brightness for better visibility.

Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX is another best head unit with the Wifi capability and screen mirroring. The Screen mirroring feature of this heading takes your travelling experience to the next level. You can play any video on your phone and then mirror it on the big HD Resistive screen.
The car stereo has so many customization options. Not only can you change the background colour, but you can also put a custom picture on the background.
Sounds interesting? It also has the Day/night mode, which automatically dims the light while driving at night and makes the light normal in daylight. This makes the display look brighter and clearer even in the sunlight.
The head unit makes your speakers sound amazing as it allows you to set the sound with its 13-band Equaliser and provides enough power to the amp with the help of its built-in Amplifier. The wifi of the head unit allows you to update the firmware software and use the internet on the head unit.
It also has many streaming services like Pandora, Spotify, iHeartRadio, Amazon Music, SiriusXM, TuneIn, Tidal, Deezer, and Napster that you’ll be able to use with the help of the Wifi and the Hotspot capability you get in the head unit.

Overall Rating
Shoe Specs
Car Tech Verdict
The Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX car stereo has a stunning design and impressive features like a built-in amplifier and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support. Firmware updates fix glitches, but the user interface could be more user-friendly. Sound quality may disappoint audiophiles, and Alexa functionality is limited. Overall, it offers a feature-rich experience but falls short in some areas.
Other Experts Say?
“This Pioneer deck system has a lot to offer. It has improved the overall experience of our existing car. The sound quality is significantly better than the built-in system we had before, and it supports high-res codecs. The dual Bluetooth feature is fantastic, allowing me to connect both my phone and my wife’s phone at the same time.”
“Now the pros of this radio are it’s an excellent sounding radio and that is a huge plus. My only real gripe is you cannot access things like YouTube and Netflix and Hulu right on the face of the radio… that feature is not very user-friendly.”
“Pioneer DMH-2660NEX has almost everything that the DMH-1500NEX didn’t have, and I suggest that you give it some serious consideration when upgrading. Not to mention, it has one of the fastest operating systems on any stereo I’ve ever filmed.”
Pros
- Beautiful design
- Built-in Amplifier and 13-band Equaliser
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Firmware updates resolve issues
- Colourful and responsive screen
- Reliable Bluetooth connectivity
- Wide range of features
Cons
- Radio glitch with Apple CarPlay (resolved with firmware update)
- Confusing user interface
- Mediocre sound quality
- Limited functionality with Alexa
- Lack of DVD support and AV inputs
Detail:
The Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX is one of the best Pioneer car stereos with a beautiful design. It comes with a built-in Amplifier and 13-band equaliser, which allows you to set the tone of the voice however you want. The stereo supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly.
You won’t need any additional USB connections to get the most out of them. Even though Apple Carplay is working fine for me now, there was a glitch when I was listening to the radio while using Apple Carplay at the same time.
When I tried to change the Radio station, the radio started cycling through all of the unstealthy presets. No matter how hard I tried to stop this issue, it wasn’t working.
However, when I updated the Firmware of the head unit to the latest one, which is 1.3, the issue just disappeared, and it never happened again.
The head unit’s screen is very colourful, easy to look at, and responsive, but the user interface could have been better. Sometimes, it’s quite difficult to understand the functions and then do what you want. Unfortunately, this head unit’s sound quality isn’t as great as I expected it to be.
The Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX car stereo offers an impressive feature set, including radio, SiriusXM-Ready, an auxiliary port, USB music playback, camera support, and 16-channel preamp outputs. I tested the sound quality on high notes but found it to be muddy and unclear despite having a built-in Amplifier.
While it may satisfy regular listeners, it falls short for audiophiles. On the upside, the Bluetooth connectivity is flawless, ensuring uninterrupted calls and music playback.
Unfortunately, the drop-in feature of Alexa doesn’t function on this head unit, limiting its use for calls to Bluetooth only. However, Alexa performs well in music control. Despite lacking DVD and AV input support, this stereo delivers a feature-rich experience.

Car Tech Verdict
The Pioneer DMH-WT8600NEX car stereo offers impressive touchscreen navigation and seamless wireless CarPlay integration. It delivers excellent sound quality and features for Android users. However, its slower performance, underwhelming screen resolution, phone connectivity issues, and occasional compatibility problems detract from its overall value.
Other Experts Say?
“When it comes to displays, the DMH-WT8600NEX has one of the best I’ve ever tested. The 10.1-inch 720p HD screen looked great and is just what we’ve been waiting for. It’s also a capacitive touchscreen, meaning it’s highly responsive and similar to your smartphone.”
“This radio has multiple mounting options, in fact, it has the most mounting options available in the floating display category. It gives you a big, bright, bold screen with a picture quality of 1080 by 720 HD..”
Pros
- Impressive and user-friendly touchscreen navigation
- Seamless wireless CarPlay integration
- Top-notch sound quality and wireless Android features
- Easy to use.
- Easy to install.
Cons
- Slow performance, especially considering the higher price
- Underwhelming screen resolution compared to other models
- Phone connectivity issues with occasional audio interruptions
- Hit or miss functionality with Android Auto and compatibility issues with certain apps
Detail:
The last best Pioneer head unit that I have for you is Pioneer DMH-WT8600NEX 10.1. The Pioneer DMH-WT8600NEX 10.1 car stereo has its highlights, but it also comes with a few drawbacks. On the positive side, the touchscreen is impressive and user-friendly, making navigation a breeze.
The wireless CarPlay functionality works great, providing seamless integration with my iPhone. Additionally, the sound quality and wireless Android features are top-notch, enhancing the overall audio experience.
However, there are some notable downsides. The unit tends to be slow, especially considering its higher price point. I’ve also found the screen resolution underwhelming compared to other models in this range.
Phone connectivity can be problematic, with occasional audio interruptions when using Apple CarPlay wirelessly. Android Auto functionality can be hit or miss, and certain apps like Amazon Music may have compatibility issues.
The screen responsiveness is also lacking, and the unit occasionally displays a frustrating “AMP ERROR” message. Moreover, the phone call experience is less than satisfactory, with callers struggling to hear me clearly.
While the Pioneer DMH-WT8600NEX offers attractive features, it falls short in terms of performance and reliability, making me question its value compared to other car stereos on the market.
5) Pioneer DMH-WT7600NEX

Overall Rating
Shoe Specs
Car Tech Verdict
The Pioneer DMH-WT7600NEX is the best Pioneer car stereo with Navigation, style, durability, and impressive features. Despite initial setup challenges, it excels in streaming videos, delivering excellent audio, and providing a vibrant touchscreen display. While lacking a few features and experiencing occasional radio noises, it remains a user-friendly and high-performing choice.
Other Experts Say?
“When it comes to displays, the DMH-WT7600NEX has one of the best I’ve ever tested. The nine-inch 720p HD screen looked great and is just what we’ve been waiting for. It’s also a capacitive touchscreen, meaning it’s highly responsive and similar to your smartphone.”
“Now I know there’s a lot of Pioneer fans out there and rightfully so. They’ve made good quality head units for the last several decades and, in my opinion, have led the market when it comes to multimedia head units dating back to the early 2000s with their original AVIC AVH series navigation head units which were cutting edge at the time.”
Pros
- Stylish and durable design
- Ability to connect hotspot for streaming live videos
- Excellent audio quality with 13-band graphic equaliser and powerful built-in amplifier
- Crisp and vibrant touchscreen display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility
- Responsive and intuitive touchscreen interface for easy operation
Cons
- Initial difficulty with micro HDMI connection and space constraints
- Missing time correction feature
- Navigation feature requires wireless Bluetooth phone connection
- Uncertainty regarding the presence of a hard drive
Detail:
Pioneer DEH-WT7600NEX is the most stylish-looking and durable car stereo I have seen. So, when I first got my hands on this head unit, I must admit I had a few hiccups along the way. One of the problems I encountered was with the micro HDMI connection.
It took me some troubleshooting to realise that I needed a right-angled cord and enough space in the dashboard to make it work. But once I got that sorted out, things started to look up.
One of the standout features of this car stereo is the ability to connect my hotspot and stream live videos directly on the screen. It’s such a cool feature that keeps me entertained on long drives. I can also connect my phone via the micro HDMI and mirror its screen to watch movies. Talk about turning my car into a mini theatre!
This car stereo doesn’t disappoint in that department. The equaliser, with its 13-band graphic equaliser and touch panel swipe settings, allows me to fine-tune the audio to my liking. Whether I’m listening to my favourite tunes or catching up on podcasts, the sound is clear and crisp.
With its MOSFET 50W x 4 output, the built-in amplifier delivers powerful sound that fills up my car. It’s a step up from my previous stereo system, and I can feel the difference in the sound quality.
When it comes to functionality, the DMH-WT7600NEX has got it covered. The built-in high/low pass crossover with adjustable points gives me control over the sound frequencies, allowing me to further customise the audio experience. However, I must mention that I couldn’t find the time correction feature on this model, which was a bit disappointing.
Moving on to the screen, I must say that the quality is top-notch. The crisp and vibrant visuals make navigating menus and watching videos a pleasure. The compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay without a cable is a huge convenience. Just connect wirelessly, and you’re good to go.
In terms of usability, the Pioneer DMH-WT7600NEX is a breeze to operate. The touchscreen interface is responsive and intuitive, making navigating different options and settings easy. It didn’t take me long to get the hang of it, and now I’m enjoying all the features this car stereo has to offer.
There are a few additional notes I should mention. By updating the Pioneer system, you can easily bypass the brake system, which is a handy trick. However, remember that the navigation feature only works when your Bluetooth phone is connected wirelessly.
One issue I experienced was the radio making scratching noises, which was odd considering it doesn’t have a CD drive. I suspect it might have a hard drive inside, but it didn’t significantly impact my overall experience with the stereo.
6) Pioneer DMH-WT3800NEX 9

Overall Rating
Shoe Specs
Car Tech Verdict
The Pioneer DMH-WT3800NEX car stereo offers a stunning 9-inch touchscreen display and a range of features. While setup can be tricky, it delivers decent sound quality and convenient Bluetooth connectivity. Despite some minor drawbacks, it provides a solid performance overall.
Other Experts Say?
“I do like that split screen, that’s nice… The screen does look very nice, it’s nice and clean and sharp… Pros include wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, I data link Maestro, the NEX user interface… and of course, the price.”
Pros
- Beautiful 9-inch touchscreen display with sharp and clear visuals
- Responsive touchscreen interface for easy navigation
- Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility for smartphone integration
- Decent sound quality with clear and punchy audio from the built-in amplifier
- Expandability options with multiple USB inputs, SD card slot, and rear view camera input
Cons
- Setup for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay can be a hassle
- Distortion at higher volumes, especially with bass-heavy tracks
- Occasional Bluetooth connectivity issues, such as signal drops and lag during playback
Detail:
The 6th best pioneer receiver I’ve used is Pioneer DMH-WT3800NEX 9. It’s a beautiful-looking head unit with tons of amazing features. First things first, let’s talk about that big 9-inch touchscreen.
It’s a beauty, no doubt. The sharp and clear display makes navigating through menus easy and cranks up the tunes. Plus, it’s super responsive, so you won’t be left tapping away like a maniac.
Now, here’s where things get a little tricky. This car stereo boasts Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, which is great if you’re an iPhone or an Android phone. But the setup can be a bit of a hassle.
I found myself wrestling with cables and settings to get everything connected properly. Once it’s up and running, though, it’s a smooth ride.
The sound quality? Well, let’s just say it’s a mixed bag too. On the one hand, the built-in amplifier delivers some decent power, and the sound comes through clear and punchy.
But on the other hand, I noticed a bit of distortion at higher volumes, especially with bass-heavy tracks. So, if you’re an audiophile looking for pristine audio, you might want to consider some external speakers or an amplifier to give it that extra oomph.
Now, let’s talk about Bluetooth connectivity. Pairing my phone was a breeze, and I could stream my iTunes wirelessly or take calls hands-free.
However, I did notice that the Bluetooth connection can sometimes get a little wonky. I experienced occasional drops in signal or moments of lag during playback. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it can be annoying, especially during those epic jam sessions.
On the expandability front, Pioneer has you covered. Multiple USB inputs and an SD card slot allow you to connect your devices and expand your music library. The rearview camera input is a nifty addition, making parking and manoeuvring a piece of cake.

The unit’s compatibility with factory speakers surprised me with its satisfying audio performance, eliminating the need for additional external speakers. While there were compatibility issues with aftermarket harnesses, connecting the speakers directly to the unit seamlessly resolved the problem.
The display could be a weak point, washing out in bright light, but it’s manageable under average lighting conditions. The head unit offers Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB inputs, and Alexa integration.
With its affordability and notable compatibility with SiriusXM satellite radio, this head unit is a solid choice despite lacking DVD support, camera inputs, or colour illumination found in pricier models.
